Tactile Graphics

This article includes references on creating tactile graphics.  It also includes some resources on teaching students how to use tactile graphics.

Many tactile graphics are already available from the American Printing House for the Blind APH.  Your TVI may be able to order these.  Check with your TVI or in the Math Tools section to see if it is already available before spending time producing something.

This Tactile Graphics Presentation includes thoughts when creating tactile graphics and also includes a list of many tools that can be used to create tactile graphics

Guidelines and Standards for Tactile Graphics by the Braille Authority of North America (BANA) is available for download at http://www.brailleauthority.org/tg/index.html

Learning how to read tactile graphics should be explicitly taught.  To learn how to begin teaching this concept, see Teaching Tactile Representation in Math
