NCASB Goalball 2017

NCASB Goalball Tournament 2017

The Iowa Rams goalball teams participated in the NCASB Goalball Tournament in St. Louis over the weekend of Nov. 3-5.  Iowa was one of ten states from around the Midwest represented at the tournament.   The boys’ team was competitive in their games against Indiana and Ohio, but ended up falling short in both.  The girls’ team was the surprise of the tournament, making history as the first goalball team from Iowa to place in the top four at the NCASB tournament.  After beating Missouri (4-2) and Indiana (3-0) in their first two games, they ran up against the eventual tournament winners from Illinois and ended up coming in third place.   Both teams represented Iowa well, always displaying a positive attitude and demonstrating good sportsmanship.  Congratulations to both teams!

To celebrate the successful tournament, the teams spent Saturday night at the St. Louis City Museum, which has been described as “the ultimate urban playground.”  Here the athletes navigated dark caves, crawled through endless tunnels, and went down a ten-story spiral slide!

Below is a local video clip from the tournament compliments of Joe St. Clair and KHQA-TV, the CBS-affiliated television station for the Tri-State area of Western Illinois, Northeastern Missouri, and extreme Southeastern Iowa.
