Iowa Deafblind Services Project
The term deafblindness describes a condition that combines, in varying degrees, both a hearing loss and visual impairment. All those who are deafblind experience challenges with communication and access to information; however, their individual needs will vary enormously. Iowa Deafblind Services Project is a federally funded project with additional support from Iowa Department of Education, Iowa School for the Deaf, Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and Iowa’s Area Education Agencies. The purpose of this grant is to improve the outcomes of children and youth (birth – 21) who are deafblind, by building the capacity of those who live and work with them. The project is designed to customize services to the specific needs of the individual child/ youth, their families, educational teams, and other service providers.
