Brunch and Bowling

Heartland

We had a huge group join us for our annual bowling event on Friday, February 28, 2020.  Twenty-seven students in grades K-12 met for brunch at Perkins before bowling at Air Lanes. Students had the opportunity to see old friends and make new ones while working on independent living skills such as ordering food, calculating their total including tax and tip to determine if they were within budget, practicing table manners, . . .

Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at UNI

Staff and students attended a performance of Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks on Friday, January 31st at Gallagher Bluedorn on the campus of UNI.  A band of winter weather threatened to cancel the event, but everyone got there safely.  Everyone remarked about how much they learned about Rosa Parks - even those who were familiar with her story. Breakfast with Santa

Des Moines

We had a great time enjoying breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus! Together we played games, built with blocks, sang Christmas songs while playing our instruments, and we also had a great breakfast! Then we made all kinds of crafts that can decorate a tree or give as gifts, wrote a letter to Santa to remind him of our gift requests, enjoyed spending time in a sensory room, and met lots of new children and parents. Spring Family Conference Guest Speaker Announcement!!

We are so excited to announce that Jake Olson will be our keynote speaker for the Spring Family Conference occurring on March 27 and 28, 2020! Jake was diagnosed with retinoblastoma at eight months old; it is a rare form of eye cancer. His left eye was removed two months later and at age 12, the cancer claimed his other eye and it was surgically removed. STEM and Tinkering with Robots Workshops

Council Bluffs

A STEM Tools and Tinkering with Robots Workshop was held on the ISD campus in Council Bluffs on November 6th and 7th.   These workshops will also be held in Dubuque, Des Moines and Sioux City starting in January.
