Superintendent's COVID-19 Update November 9, 2020

Families and education partners:

Since late August IESBVI teachers, orientation mobility specialists and consultants have been working in schools and on-line to provide instruction and support to students across Iowa. Our teachers are learning to pivot on short notice to provide virtual instruction when students have are in quarantine, or schools are closed.

Teachers are using Zoom, Google Meet, and other online and video-based learning platforms that can provide access to instruction in the home.  Where students are learning at home, our faculty have developed new ways to teach and partner with parents to ensure students have the support they need to use technology and access instruction. Everyone at IESBVI understands what a difficult time this is for our students and families.  Your support makes it possible to continue providing IEP services, whether they are in a classroom or at the kitchen table.

Our staff continues to follow guidance and safety protocols, including wearing masks at all times in schools buildings and when working with students, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  I encourage you to follow CDC guidance in your home and community.  If we do not practice these same measures outside of school, we risk spreading the virus within our schools. It takes all of us working together to maintain a COVID-free environment.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your students, especially as we face this pandemic's challenges together. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact me (steve.gettel@iaedb.org) or one of the regional directors:

Jonathan Karli (Central Rivers, Heartland, Keystone) jonathan.karli@iaedb.org

Gwen Woodward (Northwest, Green Hills, Prairie Lakes) gwen.woodward@iaedb.org

Susan Brennan (Grant Wood, Great Prairie, Mississippi Bend) susan.brennan@iaedb.org

Sincerely,

 Steve Gettel
